Black History Month: 12 Mindful and Empowering Books to Nurture Your Kid's Minds
I have been thinking about Black History Month a lot, the challenges children of color are facing in the midst of COVID, our hotly divided and chaotic world. I also know all children are suffering somehow from these issues. So I thought what books could I recommend that you can share with your kids for Black History Month? As an author and illustrator of My Heart Flies Open, a Yoga and Mindfulness book featuring a child of color, and in the light of all I have just mentioned, it made sense to curate a list of Black History Month books for kids that emphasized magic, power, beauty, joy, breath, yoga and a sense of peace.
So here we go, in no particular order of preference:

1. My Heart Flies Open by Omileye Achikeobi-Lewis
2. Our Table by Peter Reynolds
3, The Year We Learned to Fly by Jacqueline Woodson
4. . Remember to Dream Ebere by Cynthia Erivo
5.. Stacy’s Extraordinary Words by Stacey Abrams
6.. Anita and the Dragons by Hannah Carmona
7.. Glow by Ruth Forman
8. I Am Enough by Grace Byers
9. Dream Big Little One by Vashti Harrison
10. I Like Myself by David Catrow
11. Love is By Diana Adams
12 Sulwe by Lupita Nyong’o
13. I Promise by Lebron James
